If you are reading this right now, you have a serious issue at hand that needs immediate attention. Okay don’t fret you are not alone but that doesn’t mean its normal either. We always like putting important tasks aside and doing work that is low in priority first. We, as humans naturally tend to get lazy and complacent. We need motivation to get things done. Most of the time, but not often, I tend to “slack” and tell myself I’ll get it done later or maybe by tomorrow and I know I’m just blatantly lying to myself. Now I’m sure many of you out there can relate to how I feel. Well nobody likes work and we all like to take things easy most of the time. I have dreams and aspirations that I would like to achieve and attain by a certain age and I can’t afford to jeopardize them by procrastinating. I also realized that the bigger my business expands the more work I have to do.

Suddenly there seems to be a lot of emphasis on prioritizing and job allocation. If I don’t handle them promptly or see to it that it gets done, work will just pile up and somehow or rather it will snow ball into something much greater. Tsk tsk…

The challenge here is getting myself to be more prompt, precise and efficient in completing my work on a timely basis. There are a few things that I do to keep up to time and complete my tasks at hand and avoid procrastination. This is a skill that you have to develop and practice regularly. If not used regularly, will be forgotten along the way. One needs to sharpen his/her skill regularly on time management like how a pencil needs sharpening regularly to maintain its optimum usage. Yes! Proper time management is part of the solution to procrastination followed by self-discipline. Listing down what you have set to do and accomplishing it takes a lot of self-discipline.

Constant reminders will come in useful and help you to keep in check. Paste stick it notes on your personal surroundings, well I used to write notes on my bedroom ceiling to remind me that I had to focus on my work whenever I lied down on my bed and that really helped me as I would feel guilty if I rested too long.

Never watch TV sitting down and always tackle all the tough work first. If you cannot handle it alone, seek help. I’m a strong believer in abundance and that we should make use of whatever resources that we have. Build on your strengths and get up get going.

Finish your work first and then you reward yourself for completing the task. Leaving it unattended will only make you feel weaker and guilty and everything else that you do is not going to give you that self-satisfaction until you conquer it. Setting datelines can be useful too.

However do take note that setting unrealistic datelines can and will cause you more stress and that may make you give up or feel demoralised. Break up your work into smaller and manageable portions. We don’t stuff a whole chicken into our mouth so likewise break down all big and daunting tasks into smaller fractions and handle them one by one. Remember be practical if you can’t do it by yourself ask for help.

Everyone faces this problem. I’m not alone and I got a choice to make my work fun or boring. I seek creativity in whatever I do. I try to be different and always see how I can have fun while at it. Often listening to my favourite songs and watching some motivational videos here and there helps. In my line of work I need a lot inspiration and I think it’s perfectly alright if I draw it from others. Likewise if someday someone asks me out for coffee to draw some inspiration from me, I’ll gladly oblige if time permits.

Cheers!
